Climate change significantly affects the shipping sector and has direct and indirect impacts, which could potentially disrupt shipping activities, increase costs and require adjustments to infrastructure and planning. Shipping plays a critical role in global trade and transport, but it also contributes to greenhouse gas emissions to a significant extent. To tackle this challenge, the shipping industry is actively working to adopt sustainable and climate-resilient practices.
On October 10, 2023 the German-Greek Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the framework of an initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Economy and Climate Protection and in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Piraeus and Navigator Shipping Consultants Ltd successfully organized a conference in Piraeus on Green Technologies and Digitalization in the Greek and German shipping industry. In the framework of this conference, specialized Greek and German speakers presented their views on the impact of climate change on shipping and the need to adapt to energy requirements, while German companies presented their services and the prospects for their application in Greece.
